Obituary

Passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in Philadelphia, PA, where he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Stringer was a World War II Veteran and a prisoner of war during his service. He received the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen Schroeder Montford Stringer and his parents William and Mary (Wormald) Stringer, Sr., three brothers William, Jr. (Ruth), John C. (Rose), and Wilfrid and niece Rosemary Stringer Scotese.

He is survived by his sister Emily Stringer Hines of Lynwood, WA. He is also survived by brother-in-law Ervin and Miriam Schroeder and sisters-in-law Frances McNicholas and Josephine Stringer Buggeln. Nieces and nephews who survive are Patricia Stringer Gladin, Richmond, VA, Sandra (Hines) and Jerry Blanton, Gamaliel, AK, Fred and Betty Hines, Columbia, MD ,John and Patricia Stringer and family, Robert Stringer and family, William and Susan Stringer and family, all of Philadelphia, Dale (Stringer) and Tom Neuman and three sons, New York, and Kathi Stringer, Seattle, WA. Also survived by great nieces and nephews…Wendy (Gladin) and Greg Gagnon, Potomac, MD. Wayne and Winnie Gladin and family, San Antonio, TX, Hillary Hines, Brian and Nicole Hines, all of Columbia, MD. Many great great nieces and nephews including Jack, Joseph, and Jonathan Gagnon, who visited him often and enjoyed his story telling.

His love for his many nieces and nephews was evident during his younger years and continued even during his illness as he often shared fond memories of them. Go with God, Uncle Al, "it's okey-dokey". We will miss you, your loving family. Many thanks to all the staff of Delaware Valley Veterans Home, who took such good care of Uncle Al and for the many kindnesses extended to his family. Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Monday 11:30 A.M. at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 9708 Frankford Ave. (S. of Grant Ave.). Funeral Service 12 P.M. Interment Beverly National Cemetery.
