Obituary

Formerly of Lower Bucks, age 77 of New Era, PA passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013 at her house with her loving family at her side. Alice was born in Fallsington, PA on March 25, 1936. A daughter of the late Joseph J. and Helen E. Bux Beffert. She graduated from Bristol High School in 1955 where she excelled in business academic and sports. She married Edward C. Blackburn of Bensalem, PA on September 10, 1955. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary last fall. Alice was a member of St. Basil's Church in Dushore, PA. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bingo player, reader and gardener. She also like playing the slots at Showboat Casino in Atlantic City, NJ and Parx Casino in Bensalem, PA. As her children were growing up, she was deeply involved with the Levittown International Little League and was a past president of the ladies Auxiliary. The Woodrow Wilson High School touchdown Club; the Bucks County Drug Coalition; and many other community organizations. She is survived by her husband Edward C. Blackburn, Sr., her children Edward C. (Mary) Blackburn, Jr. of Nescopeck, PA, Joseph M. (Sandy) Blackburn of Levittown, PA, Steven F. (Kelly) of Freeland, PA, Kathleen M. Blackburn (Joe Trago) of New Albany, PA, Susan A. (Michael) Wallover of Levittown, PA and her daughter-in-law Nancy Blackburn of Lansdale, PA. Alice is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Joseph (Betty) Beffert of Venice, FL, Ronald Beffert of Youngstown, OH, William Beffert of Levittown, PA and Arthur Beffert of Youngstown, OH, Barbara Asta of Chalfont, PA and sister-in-laws Joan Daley of Levittown, PA and Holly Blackburn of Philadelphia, PA. 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Ronald A. Blackburn, brother and sister-in-law James and Nancy Beffert, 2 sisters and brother-in-laws Josephine and Walter Blackburn, and Dorothy and Robert Litz, 2 brother in-laws Richard D. Blackburn and Benjamin Asta and 2 sister-in-laws Gayle Beffert and Lisa Beffert. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday August 22, 2013 from 7 PM - 9 PM and Friday August 23, 2013 at 8:30-9:15 AM at BURNS FUNERAL HOME 1514 Woodbourne Rd. Levittown, PA 19057 followed by her Funeral Mass 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Rd. Towanda, PA 18848.
