Obituary

Augusta Amelio Ferrara (da Silva) passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025. She was the beloved Wife of the late Mario Ferrara, and the devoted Mom to Colette Ragen (the late Michael) and Juliet Brown (Steve). Augusta was a cherished Grandmother to Jennifer, Michael, Mark, Justin, and Keith, and a proud Great-Grandmother to Aiden, Mikey, Sadie, and Logan.

Born in Sãu Paulo and raised in Londrina, Brazil, Augusta bravely immigrated to the United States in the 1960s, where she met and fell in love with her husband, Mario, in Philadelphia. Throughout her life, Augusta was deeply devoted to her family, who were the central part of her world.

Augusta carried her degree in Accounting from Brazil to the United States, where she was initially a corporate bookkeeper. Her passion for teaching then led her to become a professor of the Portuguese language for Berlitz international language school, and a volunteer for the Philadelphia Mayor's Commission on Literacy. Her students understandably seemed to adore her.

Augusta was a fiercely loving individual, with a spiritual presence that touched the lives of all who knew her. Her love for her family, her faith, and her community was unwavering.

"Love is always bestowed as a gift - freely, willingly, and without expectation." – Leo Buscaglia
