IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Giusti
June 30, 1941 – June 23, 2022
Barbara Marzano Giusti, a loving wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2022 with her four children and best friend by her side. She was seven days shy of her 81 st birthday and leaves behind many precious memories as a caring and devoted mother to Toni Sottak (Michael), Salvatore Giusti, Deborah Mohnssen and Barb Kane. She was a proud grandmother to Savannah Caicos Sottak, Christian Jordan Kane, Kelsea Jean Mohnssen, Lindsey Turquoise Sottak, Colin Jason Kane, Caitlyn Marie Kane and Maxwell James Mohnssen. Barbara is survived by her nieces and nephews, their children, relatives, and many friends from around the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore, her parents (James and Frances Marzano); her brother, Carmen and her first child, James.Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 30, 1941, Barbara grew up in North Philadelphia where she attended St Mary's grade school and John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School. Her first job was at a telephone company. She married Salvatore Giusti on Sept 27, 1963, and had five children, the first passed away at only a few months of age. Once her four children were in school, she went back to work as a tax examiner at the IRS for nearly 25 years. This is where she met her best friend, Pat Gallagher, with whom she shared a lifetime of misadventures. In 2000 after her first grandchild was born, she retired to spend more time with her family. When she accompanied her daughter and nephew on their job interviews at Lufthansa Airlines, she ended up applying as well and was the only one who got hired. This led to a second career that enabled her to travel to places like Las Vegas, Nevada; San Francisco, California; the Turks and Caicos Islands; Lake Como, Italy and Aix-en-Provence, France.
Her sense of adventure was instilled at a young age when her father – a truck driver for the Midvale Steel Company - would take her and her brother and mother on road trips throughout the east coast. This established a strong family bond that guided her throughout her life and made her fiercely loyal, especially to her brother.
Barbara faced a lot of devastating losses but always found strength in her family. Her best times were always when she was going somewhere, anywhere – could be driving to Reno; flying standby to Italy or picking up Dunkin Donuts, she loved to be on the go and would often have a funny story to tell about it. She lived her life and spent her money like there was no tomorrow. She'd often say she didn't expect to live this long – but for those she left behind - it was not long enough. As a sister, wife, friend, aunt and mother, she could always be counted on for a shoulder to cry on, a good cup of coffee, a glass of white wine and that infectious laugh. Through everything she always found a way to laugh.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, July 7 from 10:30 am to 12pm BURNS FUNERAL HOME 9708 Frankford Ave. Phila. 19114followed by a service 12pm . Entombment is at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
