IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bernard P.
Lindline
July 27, 1927 – May 14, 2023
Bernard Patrick Lindline , known to his friends and family as Bernie, Ben or Benny, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loved ones on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the age of 95. Born on July 27, 1927 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Mary and Bernard J. Lindline. A devoted husband and beloved father, Bernie was the dedicated caregiver of his wife, Clare Dougherty Lindline for 5 years before her death in 2008. They were married for 54 wonderful years.
Growing up through the Great Depression left an indelible impact on Bernie's life and character; he was always grateful for the many blessings in his life and had great empathy for other people. A native of Fishtown, Bernie attended St. Michael's Catholic School and Penn Treaty High School. He proudly enlisted as a US Navy sailor in 1945. After training at Newport, Rhode Island, he served on the 2nd USS JUNEAU. Benny worked as a Body Mechanic for Fruehauf Trailer Company, and retired in 1989 from UPS at the age of 62 after 23 years of service.
Clare and Bernie moved to Gloria Dei Estates on Rhawn Street in 1999. Bernie was a woodworking enthusiast, sought after dance partner, champion Wii Bowling team member, loyal friend and helper to many at Gloria Dei. He enjoyed reading, listening to oldies music (all the hits ranging from the 1940's through the 1970's), going out to breakfast with his grandkids and having a cup of coffee with his buddy, Dave. Laughter came easy to Bernie, even in the final days of his life. He was a gentleman and a gentle man - warmhearted, easy going and stubbornly independent.
Bernie will be welcomed to eternal rest by Clare, their grandson Jonathan, his parents, siblings Mary, Regina, Jackie, Connie, Joe, his niece Julie and his nephews Buddy and Joey. He is the last of his generation of the Lindline family.
Ben will be forever missed by his children Peggy (Dennis), Bernie (Cathy), Rita (Doug), Teresa (Ciaran), his 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren who are tremendously grateful for his impartial and unwavering support and guidance.
A Viewing will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 from 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at St. Anslem's Church, 12670 Dunks Ferry Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19154, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
