Clare Horlacher (nee Mawhinney) died peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband, Rie, in July of 1983.
Clare, known as “MomMom” to many, was the center of her family’s world. She is survived by her three daughters – Clare (Kurt) Carlson, Nancy Altimari, and Kristen (Jeff) Schmidt and her sister – Alice (Bill) Fairchild as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her true joy was spending time with her grandchildren – Anthony (Ashley) Altimari, Jillian (Frank) Veneziale, Jeffrey (Allie) Altimari, Alexandra (Hector) Cuc, Stephen (Meghan) Schmidt, Kevin Schmidt, and Chase Carlson and great-grandchildren – Emma, Mackenzie, Olivia, Charlotte, Owen, Antonella, Frankie, Cameron, Sienna, and Giavanna.
Clare graduated from Little Flower High School in 1961 and started working for Bell Telephone right out of high school. In 1963, she married the love of her life and welcomed three daughters starting two years later. She spent the next 18 years as a stay-at-home mom before starting a company with her cousin first cleaning pre-settlement homes then a gift shop for a few years before working at Prudential, Boscov’s, and eventually Willow Grove Bank before she retired. She loved to travel with some of her favorite places being Arizona, Ireland, Spain, and Iceland. In later years, she discovered a newfound love of watching the Phillies, especially Kyle Schwarber (Schwarbie).
Friends and relatives are invited to her viewing at Burns Funeral Home, 9708 Frankford Ave. Phila., PA 19114 on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Our Lady of Calvary Church, 11024 Knights Rd. Phila., PA 19154 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Mass will be at 11:00 followed by her interment in Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
