IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis C.
Doyne
November 7, 1951 – April 29, 2024
Dennis C. Doyne, age 72, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family after a four-year battle with lung cancer.
Dennis is survived by his adoring wife Mimi (nee Blyzniuk). Beloved father of Dennis M. Doyne (Erica) and Maryelise Griffis (Robert). Loving pop of Liam, Addison, Emily and Conor. He will be sadly missed by his in-laws Gerae Blyzniuk (Andy), Michele Tanghe (Jimmy), Patrice Blancuzzi (the late Michael), Joette Ruk (Michael), Michael Blyzniuk (Jeong Sun) and the late John Blyzniuk (Carolyn) along with many nieces and nephews.
Dennis, born in Philadelphia, was the son of the late Cyril and Mary(nee McFadden) Doyne. Dennis grew up in the Port Richmond section of the city. He attended St. Anne's Catholic School, Northeast Catholic School for Boys, and Temple University, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Dennis met the love of his life, Mimi, at the age of 19 at Stokeley Playground. She caught his eye and he devised a plan to talk to her by asking for a match even though he had some in his pocket. They married on October 4, 1975, and chose to reside in Fishtown where they raised Dennis and Maryelise.
Dennis was a proud crane operator for 43 years and worked for many outfits, notably Cornell, Hawthorne, and Thackray Crane Rental. One of his favorite job sites was Liberty I. He loved being on a tower crane.
He was an active member of IUOE 542 and received his 50-year plaque in December of 2022. After his retirement, Dennis enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. His hobbies included stained glass, walking with Mimi, boat rides, fishing, and metal detecting in North Wildwood. You could easily find him walking around the neighborhood trying to get his 10,000 steps in, competing on his Fitbit against his sisters, Patrice and Gerae.
He was the family handyman and was often called MacGyver for his innovative ways of fixing things. One of his biggest accomplishments was building the shore house from the ground up, TWICE, thanks to Hurricane Gloria.
Whatever you needed, Dennis would be there. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
All in all, it is a blessing for loss to hurt like this, it means the love ran just as deep.
