August 19, 1929 – April 21, 2020
Don passed away at the age of 90 at his residence in Saint Joseph's Manor in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a Radio Operator in the U.S. Navy from 1951 through 1954. He was a proud member of The Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Jerome Church in Northeast Philadelphia where he joyfully ministered as a Lector for many years. Donald spent his life serving God, his country and his family with great loyalty, love and passion. Don spent his entire career in the Paint and Varnish Industry as a chemist and later a plant manager. He proudly worked for Dutch Boy Paint Company and then Superior Varnish. He was a longstanding member of the Philadelphia Society for Coatings Technology, Inc. and served as their President in 1969. He received the Liberty Bell Award in 1974 and made many other noteworthy contributions to this Society. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Galle on December 27, 1952 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Don is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Galle Fritz in 1999 and by his second wife, Jeanne Downing Fritz in 2006. Don is survived by his 4 children: David Fritz, Mary Monica, Daniel Fritz (Janice) and Kathleen Temple (Dean). Pop-Pop also leaves behind 11 loving grandchildren (Jennifer, Danielle, Alexander, Stephanie, Adam, Lisa, Kiersten, Julia, Tara, Eric and Daniel) and 2 great-grandchildren (Joselyn and Kennedy) along with many loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Livestream his Service on Saturday, May 2, 2020, 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers contributions to St. Vincent DePaul Society of Philadelphia (svdp-phila.info) or a charity of your choice in his memory would be appreciated.
