Dorothy Cray Massaro

October 8, 1943 – November 28, 2025

Dorothy (Dot, Dottie), 82, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. A loving and caring Mom, Nan, Sister, Companion and Friend whose warm heart touched the lives of so many who knew her.

Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Cray and devoted Mom to Maria Massaro and Ian Massaro (Amy). She was the proud Nan to grandsons, Nolan, Finley and Macray "Mac."

Dottie was a caring sister to Mary Crain (Edward), Christine Pollakis (the late Edward), Richard Cray (Rosemarie), the late Joseph Cray (Ursula), Patricia Krause (James), the late Barbara Vetri (John), Michele Wingate (Bobby) and Michael Cray. She was also dear aunt to many nieces and nephews and loved by numerous cousins.

Dorothy was also treasured companion, for more than 20 years, to James Colombo. Dorothy and Jim traveled extensively over their years together, seeing Italy, Nova Scotia, and the Caribbean on cruises with their good friends. Jim was devoted to Dorothy's care during her final years battling dementia and was by her side through the difficult times. Dorothy's family is eternally grateful to Jim for his dedication and love for her. Dorothy loved Jim and his family, Jeannie, Jimmy, Kathy, Jason, Tara, Morgan, Brittany, Paige, the late Sophia, Olivia and Kiera, as if they were her own.

Dorothy was a graduate of West Catholic High School in 1962 as president of her senior class. Her love of people and desire to care for them started in those years as she built lifelong friendships. She started work right out of high school at Arthur Murray Dance Studio where love of music and dance grew and was a big part of her family's life.

Later Dorothy worked for Hercules Cement Company before finding her place as the first woman sales person at Paper Manufacturers in Philadelphia. Dorothy's career in sales grew and after years of visiting different colleges selling paper supplies, she was offered a position at Princeton University bookstore as their manager. This was a dream job for her as she loved people and especially meeting the students and their family members. She would remember their names upon their return to school each year.

Dorothy moved to a position at Bloomingdale's in Willow Grove, another dream job, where she honed her retail skills and became, in a very short time, floor manager. Again, her love of people and helping others, made her a favorite with customers and staff. Dorothy's final 'job' was also in retail at Neiman Marcus in King of Prussia. Her love of fashion and knowledge of what was best for her customers, was a gift.

Dorothy volunteered as a caregiver for Fox Chase Cancer Center and was a board member for Peace Valley Holistic Center, an organization that helps families of children with special needs, specifically Autism.

Dorothy's love of music and dance took her and Jim out to local places to listen to the oldies, to dance and reminisce. She also enjoyed her grandsons' sporting events and shows along with events with Jim's grandchildren as well.

Family was most important to Dorothy and there are so many memories of the family parties which lasted several hours, filled with so much love and laughter. Dorothy's presence will be greatly missed but our memories will last forever.
