Edward L. Worek, a Levittown resident, passed away Sunday January 25, 2009 at Doylestown Hospital.
Edward Worek was born in West Hazleton, Pa. in 1922 and graduated from Hazle Township High School in 1941. He served as a mortar platoon Sargeant with the 23rd Infantry regiment of the 2nd Division in WWII. He received a Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy at Omaha Beach and received a cluster for the Battle of the Bulge. Edward served in campaigns in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded the Combat Infantrymans Badge, Distinguished Unit Citation, American Defense Medal, European Campaign Medal, German Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Worek resided in Levittown since 1950, was a member of American Legion post 960, and served as Commander in 1965. He was also a member of V.F.W. John Billingsley Post, and a life member of Disabled American Veterans, Knights of Columbus Council 4215, and the John Newman 4th Degree Assembly.
Ed Worek retired from Bristol Township School District after 30 years of service in Operations, and enjoyed many years as an employee at the Knights of Columbus "Crow's Nest" as bartender. Ed was an avid golfer, active in many area golf clubs.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris, and is survived by a large family spanning the globe from Coronado, California to England.

Relatives and friends are also invited to his Funeral Mass Thursday 10 A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Pkwy. (at Rt. 13), Levittown, Pa. 19054. Interment at the convenience of the family.
