Elizabeth Barr (nee Lafferty) "Betty", passed away May 17, 2022. Loving wife of the late James J. Barr, Jr. Beloved mother of Rita Pepenelli, the late Elizabeth Weber (Thomas), the late Sister Maureen James Barr, SSJ., Jane Barr Horstman (John), Kathleen Barr Wagner (Mark), James J. Barr, III (Debra), Patricia Barr Russo (Richard) and Charles Lafferty Barr (Terri). Caring and loving Grandmother "Nanny" to thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Betty was born and raised in South Philadelphia, she attended Catholic schools and was a proud graduate of John W. Hallahan High School in Philadelphia. She tirelessly cared for her husband, her eight children and their spouses and grandchildren as the Barr family grew.  Her Catholic faith guided her through joys and sorrows.  She prayed the rosary every day, she attended daily Mass at St. Jerome Parish where she raised her family and lived until 2018.  Since then Betty has attended daily Mass at St. Joseph Villa and adopted a whole new family there with the Sisters of St. Joseph and the staff.  Betty Barr was a connector, keeping in touch with relatives, neighbors and friends for many years in person and by telephone.  She never failed to offer a few kind words to everyone she met, checking on your loved ones and remembering their names.  She will be dearly missed by so many.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday, May 24, 9:00 AM, St Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave. Flourtown, PA 19031 followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Please note that masks are required at St. Joseph Villa.  Interment Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations are to be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph Welcome Center , 728 E. Allegheny Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19134.
