Obituary

Eugene J. Corbett passed away peacefully on May 9, 2020 after a brief illness.  He was two months shy of 90 years old.   He is survived by his wife and faithful companion, Jeanne M. Corbett (nee Conlon) of 58 years; predeceased by his son, Michael and dear father of Maureen and Christopher (Lisa). He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew, Madison, Tiffiany and great grandson, Gregory.    Eugene was one of seven and has two living siblings, Jim and Helena. Eugene was in the Army, worked as an electronic technician and then as an electronics teacher.  He ended up his career at the Philadelphia Prisons where his nickname was 'Poppy' due to his advanced age.  Eugene was raised Catholic and lived in various parishes of Philadelphia his entire life.  He enjoyed the last 5 years at Baker's Bay Condo playing bocce and quoits.  He also authored several stories for the condo's magazine.   He loved math and referred to himself as "Eugenius" due to math capabilities.  He loved a challenge enjoying both Sudoku and solitaire daily and pinochle and chess when younger.  With all his smarts he often would forget basic things, so he earned the title of 'Absent Minded Professor'.    Eugene loved telling stories, as well as some bad jokes, and his Irish heritage.  One of the highlights of his life was getting to visit Ireland with his wife.  It was the last big trip for the Gene & Jean team.  His wish was for a simple life and he would like all who imbibe to enjoy a Tullamore Dew or a Manhattan!

Due to COVID, there will be a limited viewing for family members and a private interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
