Frank J. McLain, Jr., age 84 of Philadelphia, PA passed away at home on July 4, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of the late Mary McLain (nee Donohue). Beloved father of 3 daughters; the late Colleen Powaserys, Maureen McLain and Ruthanne Skalamera. Loving father-in-law of John Powaserys, Joseph A. Skalamera. Adoring grandfather of John Jr. (Jessica), and Kaitlyn Mary. Also survived by his sister Lilian Queen; sister-in-law Pat McLain, and many other family members, nieces, and nephews.
Frank was a retired proud member of Roofers Local #30. Men like Frank put their blood, sweat, and tears into building their union. Prior to getting married, Frank traveled for union work which took him to many places, but Alaska was his favorite. Frank always had a funny story to tell about when he was growing up.
One night while out with his friends he spotted a girl across the room, "love at first sight", he told his friend; "See that girl over there? I'm going to marry her." To which his friend replied, "Frank, you don't even know that girl." Three months later, they were engaged and had 40 wonderful years together when his Mary was called home to Heaven.
Frank was a devoted family man. His family, his "girls", were his heart, his soul, his everything. Together, Frank and Mary raised 3 daughters and later gained 2 son-in-laws and 2 grandchildren; his Johnny and Kate, whom he worshiped and adored, and loved being their "Poppy".
Frank had many hobbies which included fishing, boating, crabbing and collecting antique trains. He was certified in Scuba diving years ago, and he loved to travel. But what he enjoyed most was his family. He is in Heaven now with the love of his life, his soul mate, Mary, and their oldest daughter Colleen. Frank has left us with so many good times and wonderful memories. He will always be remembered and forever be missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday 9-10:30 AM at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 1428 E. Columbia Ave. Phila., PA 19125 followed by his Funeral Mass 11 AM at St. Michael's Church. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery.
