Obituary

Frank Rizzo, age 90, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018. He was born on February 15, 1928 in Chiaravalle Centrale, a small town in southern Italy, to Giuseppe and Rosaria (Sestito) Rizzo. Frank began honing his craft of carpentry at the age of six, working alongside his father and brother. He said his first job was straightening nails, because back then, "you threw nothing away." Frank left Chiaravalle at 21, to work in Rome. In 1956, he left Italy for America, where he lived with his Uncle Ralph, the father of the former Philadelphia Mayor Frank L. Rizzo. In America, Frank met his wife, Menina. They were married on August 31, 1957 and together, had two daughters. Frank was passionate about his work, saying he'd pick going to the shop over just about anything else. For most of his career, Frank worked as a display carpenter at the John Wanamaker store in Philadelphia. He was a proud member of Local 1050 of the Carpenter's Union, honored in December of 2016 for 60 years of service. Frank is best remembered as a kind, patient and generous person. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Menina; daughters, Rosemarie (Boris) and Pina (Jerry); grandchildren, Bianca, Alexandria, Jerry (Kelsey), Christopher, Matthew, Franny and Gianna; sisters, Raffaella and Mariangela; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, 9-10:15 A.M. at St. Dominic Church, 8504 Frankford Ave., Phila., PA 19136. Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M. Entombment Sunset Memorial Park.
