IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick T.
Mau
October 21, 1956 – April 9, 2023
Frederick T. ("Fred") Mau, age 66 on April 9, 2023. Fred was born and raised in South Philadelphia and spent most of his adult life in Northeast Philadelphia with many summers spent in Wildwood, NJ. He was the husband of Maureen Mau, mother of John Maxwell Piccolo and Blake Maxwell Piccolo. Fred was the father of Brandon Mau (Sadie) and the proud grandfather of Bryson Mau. Fred is also survived by his sisters Dolores Mau and Margaret Friel, his brother-in-law, Don Friel and nephews Colin and Connor Friel. He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret C. Mau and father Fred Mau. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Karla Mau (Hinterkoff).
Fred was a 1974 graduate of Bishop Neumann High School and a graduate of the School of Business Administration of Drexel University. He spent his career as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in South Philadelphia, retiring in 2015.
Fred was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and enjoyed many spring training trips with his close circle of friends to Clearwater, FL to cheer on the Phillies. In retirement he and Maureen, along with their friends, did many road trips to see away games for the Phillies and Eagles. He was an attendee at most of the 2022 Phillies playoff and World Series games. He also was able to share the Eagles NFC title game victory with Brandon and friends at Lincoln Financial Field.
Fred also was a music lover and attended numerous concerts over the years. He also had a vast music collection ranging from today's artists to 70's rockers. He and Maureen recently traveled to San Diego, CA to see a performance by the other Eagles, of Hotel California fame. That is just one example – the concerts and events attended by Fred over the years are too numerous to count.
Fred enjoyed a large group of loyal friends in Northeast Philadelphia, South Philadelphia, the New Jersey shore and all over the Delaware Valley. He treasured these friendships and knew he had many that he could count on, when needed. That loyalty was always reciprocated; all knew Fred would be there for them.
Most of all Fred was dedicated to his family. He and Maureen enjoyed their retirement years, traveling the country often and enjoying their summers in Wildwood. He was a dedicated father and helped Brandon and Sadie get a head start as they began their life together with Bryson. He relished the role of being a proud and loving grandfather and spent countless hours with Bryson. He enjoyed a close relationship with his two sisters throughout his life and was a terrific uncle to his nephews – they always enjoyed hanging out with "Uncle Fred".
