Gerald P. Joyce Sr. , 75, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Jerry was born in Philadelphia on December 16, 1942 to the late Thomas Joyce and the late Catharine Joyce (nee Mumford). In 1965 Jerry married Maryann Joyce (nee Hanlon) and together they raised their children, the late Gerald P. Joyce Jr. (Marnie, Vincent Brancaccio), Lee Ann Kampf (Mark), James Joyce (Pam). Jerry was the loving pop pop of Julie, Jerry III, Melissa, Max, Lauren, Matthew, Dylan, Zoe and Jolie. Dear brother of the late Thomas (Jane), Joseph (Dorothy), Mary Catharine Miller and brother-in-law of Judith (George) Gaskill. Jerry is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Navy for three-years at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station and was a graduate of St. Joseph's University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Jerry was a purchasing manager in the steel industry for many years before transitioning to the federal government Investigation Division as an investigative agent.
Jerry and his wife, Maryann split their time between their homes in Philadelphia, PA and Ocean City, NJ. Jerry was an active member of St. Katherine of Siena (Philadelphia) and St. Damien Parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church (Ocean City). Jerry was a member of the Ocean City American Legion Post 524. Ocean City was the place where Jerry shared his love of the beach and ocean with his family and friends. After a day at the beach and recalling the day's highlights, Jerry would typically be at the grill with a scotch in hand.
Jerry enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Maryann as avid cruisers. He was particularly known for his sense of humor and natural way he could strike up a conversation with old friends or someone he just met.
Jerry made lasting relationships with those who crossed his path from his longtime friends Dave and Judy DeLellis, to the Decatur Street and extended group of friends, and as a member of the Philadelphia Aquatic Club for nearly 30 years, Jerry would swim and work out several times a week with his friends at the gym.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Saturday, January 13, 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at
St. Katherine of Siena Church 9700 Frankford Ave Phila. Pa. 19114 followed by his funeral mass at 10:30 AM. Interment is Private
