Ho-Young Sohn, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on June 29th, 2025, while holding his two sons' hands and went to be with the Lord.
Born December 17th, 1930, in Seoul, Korea, he was the son of Kap Chul Sohn and Lo Mah Song. He was the devoted husband to KyoungAe (née Kang) for 61 years, a loving father to Robert (Mihee) and Richard (Rosanna), and the proud and adoring grandfather to his treasured grandchildren: Kate, Isabelle, Eric, William, and Carolyn
Ho-Young graduated from Korea University in Seoul, Korea with a bachelor's degree in economics, but his education was interrupted by the Korean War. He also received master's degrees in government and in language from Seoul National University. Ho-Young served as an officer in the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army during and after the Korean War and separated from service in 1961 at the rank of Major. He then served in the ROK diplomatic corps, with postings including Thailand, Houston, and New York, and becoming the Deputy Consul General in the New York City ROK Consulate General office. He immigrated to the US afterwards and became a proud naturalized US citizen. Having lived in many parts of the US, including Rockville, Maryland and Southfield, Michigan, he settled in Newtown, Pennsylvania for the past 20 years to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his deep and abiding love for his family, his life was marked by an avid thirst for faith and knowledge, with daily study of the Bible and constant reading of countless books, newspapers and newsmagazines.
