Obituary

James "Jim" E. Burke, 80, of Burlington Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2019, with his family by his side.  Jim was a faithful and loving partner, father, grandfather and friend.  He cherished every moment he spent with his family.

He is predeceased by his parents James and Loretta Burke (Oldenburg), his brother Dan Burke and his first wife Barbara Burke (Gosack).  He is survived by his loving partner of the last 22 years, Susan Lilly; his son Jim and his wife Kathleen; his daughter Cindy and her husband Marc; his son Steve and his wife Debbie.  He is also survived by Susan's son Tom and his wife Diana; and Susan's son Alex.  He is survived by six grandchildren, Kelly and Sean Burke, James Burke, Alex and Emma Lilly and Ryleigh Lilly.

Jim was born in Dubuque, Iowa on November 29, 1938.  He spent most of his younger years in Galena and Joliet, Illinois.  At age 11 he became paralyzed and lived in medical isolation with polio.  Jim survived, became fiercely independent and developed a life-long affinity for running.  He moved to Turnersville, NJ in 1969 and Burlington Township in 1996. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Jim worked as a distribution/logistics manager for Oscar Mayer Company for 31 years.  He volunteered and advocated for many youth programs as his children grew up in Turnersville.  Later in life, he was fully involved with his grandchildren, sharing his adventurous spirit and encouraging them to try new things.  We know that he will always be a part of the many lives he touched.  Our hearts are truly broken but we are confident he is at peace with our Lord.

In keeping with the wishes of Jim there will be no funeral service.  Memorial gifts may be given to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Trenton (www.catholiccharitiestrenton.org), an organization Jim faithfully and generously supported.
