Johanna (Ann) May Blodgett passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at Immaculate Mary Center.  She was 91.

Ann was born May 23, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA, to August and Mary Gunkel.  Upon moving to the Northeast in the 1950s she became a member of St. Katherine of Siena.  Up until the time Ann lost her ability to travel outside her home by herself she attended daily mass at St. Katherine's. She is survived by her daughters, Maryann O'Brien (John) and Monica Rocchio (Albert), and her most beloved granddaughter, Alisha O'Brien, and great grandson, Devon.  Her beloved husband, Monte, and son, Monte Roy, preceded her in death.

One of six brothers and sisters, she is also survived by her brother, William Gunkel, and three sisters, Alma Miller, Mary Mahler (Peter), and Madeline O'Neill, and was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Gunkel.  All were an integral part of "the Gunkels" and she always looked forward to getting together with them.  Family meant everything to her.  She is remembered with love by her many nieces and nephews. Ann loved to cook and bake (her cheesecake was the best!) for family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed a Manhattan or two before dinner. She will be missed by many close friends, as well as her friends and fellow volunteers at Immaculate Mary Center, where she was a volunteer for over ten years before moving there to live in 2011.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Chapel of Immaculate Mary Center, 2990 Holme Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, with a Funeral Mass to be held at 9:30 a.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal, 475 E. Chelten Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19144.
