John R. Brandau, affectionately known as “Uncle Kel” and “Pops,” passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, at the age of 93.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Brandau (née Rechner) and a devoted father to Rosemarie. He was a cherished “Pops” to Kelly Marie and Matthew (Ashley), and a proud great-grandfather to Regina. He was also the brother of the late James Porter,Jr., Barbara McCarrier (nee Porter) and Sharon Seaman (nee) Porter.
John was the proud owner of Kelly’s Happy Tap and Kelly’s Keno, where he built lasting friendships and connections within the community. A proud United States Army veteran, he served his country honorably from 1949 to 1953. Following his military service, John dedicated many years to volunteering, especially at VMC. He was also a longtime Member of AOH 51 and 87 always finding fulfillment in helping others and staying active.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18930. The service will begin promptly at 1:30 PM; attendees are kindly asked to arrive no later than 1:15 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the VMC designated for the Perimeter Kitchen, 213-217 North 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
