John was a retired Philadelphia Police Officer who proudly served the city for many years.

Loving father of Jennifer Woodmender (Bill), Brittany Nino (Jacques), Danielle Downs, and Nicole Varley (Sean).  Pop-Pop of Shawn Woodmender, Lucas Woodmender, Faye Smith, Nathan Hadfield, Ethan Varley and Colton Varley.  Son of Doris (nee Brown) and the late James Downs.  Brother of Eileen Dougherty, James Downs, Don Downs, and Dan Downs.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Thursday, 11 A.M. - 12:45 P.M. at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 9708 Frankford Ave., Phila., PA 19114.  Funeral Service 1 P.M.
