John Joseph Finn passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday January 8, 2026. He was the beloved husband of 58 plus years to Nancy (née Donaghy), and a devoted father to Cynthia Mulholland (Jack) and Jeanne Rybarczyk (Tony).
John was a cherished "Pop" to Ashley, Lyndsay, Anthony Jr., Jack, Ethan, Emily, Kyle, Bella, Trey, Cleo, Santino, and Zoey, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
He was the dear brother of the late Thomas Finn (the late Louise), Brian Finn and James Finn, a loving brother-in-law of Elaine Gaines (Steve). Predeceased by his parents John and Sarah Finn and his in laws Jack and Edith Donaghy. John is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
John dedicated his life to service, as an Air Force veteran in Thailand, who proudly served during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Detective Sergeant in the Homicide Division after 25 years with the Philadelphia Police Department. He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Police Philadelphia Lodge 5 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Saint Christopher Council 17997, and 4th degree member of the Saint John Neumann Assembly 933. While his commitment to service defined much of his life, his greatest devotion was always to his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday evening, January 13, 2026 at Burns Funeral Home, 9708 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19114, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Wednesday January 14, 2026 at St. Christopher's Church, 13301 Proctor Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19116, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:15 AM. Interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to St. Christopher's Church 13301 Proctor Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19116 and to the Priests of the Sacred Heart, PO Box 900, Hales Corner, WI 53130
