Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce our loss of John J. Sickinger, who passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2025. He was the son of Eugene and Susanna and the brother of Josephine Baker (Larry). John grew up in Kensington, graduated from Northeast HS.

John was the beloved husband of the late Frances and a loving father to Anne (Tom), John, and Robin (Anthony). John was also a cherished Pop-Pop to Thomas, Michele (Joseph), Kaitlyn (Jeff), and Anthony, and a dear Great Pop-Pop to Keala and Flory. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, along with his beloved dog Holly.

After proudly serving his country in Korea, 7th Reconnaissance Company (1951-1953), John became a devoted family man who dedicated much of his life to the well-being of those he loved.

A machinist by trade, working at Heinz & Kelsey Hayes, he worked hard throughout his career and found joy in simple pleasures like taking us to the pool, walks in Pennypack park and playing baseball with the kids in the neighborhood. For many years he was actively involved in coaching baseball at the Torresdale Boys and Girls club, sharing his time and knowledge with the community.

He was an avid poker player who hosted a monthly poker game for over 60 years. He had a deep passion for Philadelphia sports (Go Birds), was a loyal fan throughout his life and enjoyed watching his horses.

In lieu of flowers, John would encourage you to purchase a scratch-off lottery ticket or two and wishes you the best of luck!

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a viewing on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Burns Funeral Home (9708 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19114). John's family wishes to thank all who have offered support during this difficult time. He will be greatly missed, but forever remembered for his love, humor, and generosity.
