Joseph P. Kanski, 73, born March 17, 1948, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on January 8, 2022.
Preceded in death by his parents Bronislaw and Mary Kanski.
Dear brother of the late Doris and Robert.
Devoted father of Laura Johnston, Jennifer Barr (Stephen), and Pamela Gregorio (Michael). Loving Pop Pop to Hailey, Brooke, Dylan, Emily, Sophia, Alexander, and Vincent. Joe will also be sadly missed by his loving, extended family.
Growing up, Joseph was raised in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia, watching the Art Museum fireworks from the top of his roof. He attended Dobbins High School, graduated Class of 1966, where he was a proud varsity football player and Student Council President. He then continued his education at Rochester Institute of Technology. After many years of service as a planning estimator, Joseph retired from the Philadelphia Gas Works. He loved the outdoors...especially hunting, fishing, and camping.
He was passionate about his motorcycles, classic cars, music, and often could be found singing and dancing to the oldies and classic rock.
He spent many years coaching his daughters' softball teams. Every season, Joseph would cheer on the Phillies, Eagles, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Temple Owls. He was always a kind soul, donating to charities and other various causes. Many people found support and guidance through stories he shared for over 13 years at AA meetings. Most importantly, he was a proud father and a loving, joyful Pop Pop.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, January 14, 2022, 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM, Christ the King Church, 3252 Chesterfield Rd., Philadelphia, PA, followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Joseph's memory.
