Joseph I. Larmer

Jan 17, 1933 — Oct 26, 2026

Joseph Ignatius Larmer passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Center City Philadelphia, Joe attended St. Patrick's Grade School and Southeast Catholic High School. He was a talented basketball and baseball player, and among his peers he was affectionately known as "Reds" because of his curly red hair. He was the player everyone wanted on their team.

Joe had a lifelong love of music and a voice that could carry any tune. He always wanted to be a Mummer, but he never found the time to get involved. During his years as a resident of the Delaware Valley Veterans Home, he was well known for his crooning, dancing, and good-natured personality. He also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially cats, dogs, and horses. He particularly enjoyed following and betting on his beloved "ponies."

Beloved husband of the late Rosemarie (Serefin) he was a devoted father to Julie LeFavi (Gaetano) Chris (Benita), Scott (Susan), and Jeff (Barbara). He was a loving Pop/ Poppy to Tim, Andy, Zachary, CJ, Jacob, Heather, Jeffery, and Evan, all of whom brought him tremendous joy. Joe shared a particularly special bond with his grandson Tim. Even after Tim moved away, they remained close through regular telephone calls and visits whenever Tim returned to Philadelphia.

He was also the dear brother of Mary Laumer (Paul) and the late Richard Larmer (), Manny Larmer, and John Larmer (). Joe treasured his relationships with his siblings and never missed an opportunity to reminisce and talk about the old times. His sister Mary especially remembers his guiding hand and the many ways he was there for her throughout their childhood and growing-up years.

A proud United States Army veteran of the Korean War, Joe dedicated many years of his life to serving his community as a police officer with the City of Philadelphia before retiring. He later worked as a security guard at the Veterans Hospital in West Philadelphia. His commitment to his country and community reflected a lifetime of service, dedication, and caring for others.
