IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph F.
Schickling
March 26, 1923 – April 2, 2021
Son of the late Joseph and Ellen (nee McCoy). Beloved husband of the late Angeline (nee Gasperin). Devoted father of Kathryn Brugler and David Schickling (Margaret). Loving Grandpop to seven and great grandpop to eleven grandchildren. Dear brother of Jane Kelly and Regina Layton (Francis). Predeceased by Thomas, John, James, Francis, Marie Rutter, Eleanore White and Edward. Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joe attended St. Michael's Grade School and graduated from North Catholic in 1941. He then enlisted in the Army, serving in the 35th Infantry as a cryptographer in WWII. Joe was active in the Ancient Order of Hibernians, serving as a division and county Financial Secretary.
He was involved in many things at Our Lady of Calvary Church, serving as an usher, eucharistic minister and President of the Calvary Seniors. Joe belonged to the High Three Retired Supervisors Club. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1978 as the manager of the Holmesburg Station. His total years of service was 32 years.
A big part of Joe and Angie's life was their desire to help others. Volunteering was very important to them. They also enjoyed their trips to the casinos. The quality that best describes Joe is his willingness to always be there for his family. Nothing asked was ever too much for him to do.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Wednesday, April 7, 2021, 10:00 AM, Our Lady of Calvary Church, 11024 Knights Rd., Philadelphia, followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM.
