Joseph J. Stever peacefully passed away supported by his loving family on March 23, 2026. Devoted husband of 58 years to his bride, Kathleen (nee Mannix). Loving father of Jeff (Amy), Kristen Goodwin (Dan), and Valerie Ansel (Fran). Adored Poppy Joe to Alison, Kerri (Jesse), Daniel (Jen), Meghan, and Timmy, and Great-Poppy Joe to Cinco. Cherished brother of Maryann Burke and Richard (Kathleen). Joe is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
Joe grew up in the Kensington section of Philadelphia and attended Ascension of Our Lord Church. He was a proud graduate of North Catholic High School, Class of 1965. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and remained a proud patriot throughout his life. He dedicated over 30 years as a United States Postal Service letter carrier, working out of the Boulevard Station in Northeast Philadelphia.Joe enjoyed long drives to spend time at the shore and, above all, being with his family. He was a die-hard Phillies and Eagles fan and enjoyed watching college basketball. A true people person, Joe loved coaching, umpiring, and refereeing at Juniata Park Boys & Girls Club—roles that suited his outgoing and engaging personality perfectly.
Joe was a simple man who lived life on his own terms and found happiness in the everyday moments. He was a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor, and he had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He often ended conversations with his signature phrase, “Have a 5-Star Day!”—a reflection of his consistently positive outlook on life.
