Joseph J. Waldowski

Joseph Waldowski, 103, of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026.

Joe was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy (née Misnik), with whom he shared 77 years of loving marriage. He was a devoted dad to Dorothy Gadbois (Larry) of Jamison, Paul (Margaret Mary) of Yardley, Susan Lukiewski (Edward) of Chalfont, and Joseph (the late Robin) of New Milford. He was cherished Pop-Pop to Jennifer Quinn, Michael Quinn, Carolyn Gadbois, Kyle Waldowski, Joseph (Holly) Catrino, Kerri-Allyson (Jacob) Reeves, Daniel (Lisa) Catrino, Thomas (Rachel) Lukiewski, Elizabeth (Jon) Courtney, and Gabe Waldowski. “Dziadziu” will be missed by 16 great-grandchildren, Pepper, Jaxon, Ava, Ryder, Noah, Ryan, William, Juliet, Alena, Jane, Daniel, Olivia, Kevin, Brynn, Shay, and Stella. Joe was the dear brother of the late Leonard Waldowski and the late Helen Pritchard. Joseph is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Joe moved to Philadelphia with his family at a young age, where he built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He was a parishioner at Our Lady Help of Christians in Port Richmond and proud graduate of North Catholic High School, Class of 1941, where his education helped shape the values he carried throughout his life.

Joe honorably served his country as a United States Marine during World War II in the Pacific, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He demonstrated remarkable courage, resolute discipline, and an unshakable devotion to duty during an intense and uncertain war.

After returning to home soil in February of 1946, Joe married Dot on May 25. He loved her deeply and was known to shower her with compliments and praise over their nearly eight-decades-long love story. He was the strong and silent partner of their vibrant marriage, a steady, grounding support to his entire family. What he didn’t always say with words he made up for in presence. As they raised their four children, he had a long career as a tool and die maker, taking great pride in the precision of his craftsmanship. He worked hard to support his family and their beautiful home on Etta Street in Torresdale, where he lived from 1960 to 2020.

Joe was deeply involved in his community and parish as a former Grand Knight of the Madonna Council of the Knights of Columbus, a member of American Legion Post 366, and a two-term president of the Primrose Club at St. Katherine of Siena Church. He was an avid bowler who enjoyed sharing the pastime with friends and family. He took many trips with Dot after retirement, including cruises and excursions to the shore with their seniors club. He loved to play Santa on Christmas Eve, when he brought great joy to the kids in his bright red suit. He appreciated a tight “GI buzz cut,” the comfort of a hearty meat-and-potatoes meal, and the taste of a good Manhattan. In recent years, he looked forward to family visits at Paul’s Run Retirement Community, where he enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching Phillies and Eagles games.

While all of us hold personal memories of our Dad and Pop to comfort us, we collectively have been shaped by his steady, unwavering support throughout our lives. We honor his legacy that will live on through the generations.

Joe’s relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Katherine of Siena Church (9700 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19114), followed by a funeral mass. Interment will follow at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery.
