IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katherine M.
Chomentowski
November 27, 1942 – August 28, 2025
Katherine "Kate" Chomentowski (nee Hampton), age 82, peacefully left this earth on August 28, 2025 at Vitas Hospice in Philadelphia. She will be greeted by her parents who predeceased her, Herbert (Herb) Hampton and her mother Emma (Metcalfe). She is survived by her loving husband Andrew and three children Katherine "Kitten" (Harold Snyder), Helen (Matthew D'Imperio) and Andrea "Munggie" Powell (Brian), by three grandchildren Matthew John D'Imperio, Jr. (Allicia Harris), Catrenia D'Imperio, Andrew Snyder, and 1 great grandson Matthew Liam D'Imperio. Mom was born on November 27,1942 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the 3rd child of 9 children blessed to her parents - Emma Douglas (Howard, deceased), Leona Bortz (deceased) (Kenneth, deceased), Herbert "Buddy", 3rd (deceased) (Janet Rosar, deceased), Georgetta Willimas (John, deceased), David (Marietta Ciardullo), Elsie McCloskey (Michael), Victoria "Vicky" Barger (Robert) and Lorinda "Dodee" Kirk (James Prem). There are also many nieces and nephews who will miss her.
Mom's life was deeply rooted in family and community. She was a loving wife, mom, aunt, and sister. She made us a happy home the best she knew how. She made sure the roof never leaked, she even got up there and fixed it herself once. There was always food on the table, however cooking was not her strongest suit. She always made Christmas the best holiday at our house. From the Christmas Eve dinner with borscht to Christmas morning with a mountain of presents. Mom and Dad loved camping, fond memories of Promisedland state park, and driving across the country. She also loved to sew. She made many wedding dresses, christening gowns, and a lot of our clothes. As someone recently said, "she was funny and fierce" and could be a force to be reckoned with but also loving and compassionate.
She also loved Fishtown and those who lived here. Mom was born and raised here and never wanted to live anywhere else. She will be remembered for fighting to keep it a neighborhood for families. She, along with a long list of friends, stopped traffic during rush hour at the I-95 ramp, battled the druggies that hung across the street from our house, and helped start, along with dad, the Fishtown Civic Assoc. Many will also remember her for helping her neighbors with their needs, from dealing with City Hall, delivering food with dad during Christmas, and even driving people to doctor appointments. She also coached girls and young women's sports for many years. The Fishtown Angles Softball Team won several City Championships. We were taken to many games for softball, field hockey, swimming meets just to name a few.
Mom had a crazy and colorful personality; she wouldn't mind if you wore comfortable clothes with a bit of color. In lieu of flowers, Kate would want, because of her love for animals, you to volunteer at your local animal shelter or donate to your favorite animal charity. You could also donate to the Alzheimer Association on her behalf at - alz.org.
To commemorate her incredible journey and to celebrate the love she spread, relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Thursday, September 4, 2025, 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM Burns Funeral Home, 1428 E. Columbia Avenue, Philadelphia, followed by her Service 2:00 PM.
