Kelly Ann Reed, nee DiCesare, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 20th 2025 at home in Philadelphia, PA.
Kelly was born on July 18th, 1962, she was daughter to Carlo and Cynthia DiCesare.
Kelly was a proud graduate of Hallahan Catholic High School for Girls. For many years, Kelly worked in the family business on Girard Avenue, known as Joe's Hoagie Shop. In the Spring of 1993 she took over the business and changed the name to Kelly's Hoagie Shop. She went on to become a Fishtown legend known for her homemade soups and great food. It's a legacy that remains today, even though she retired and closed the shop in June 2001.
In addition to her cooking skills, Kelly was also a talented artist in ceramics, which she made into a business doing craft shows up until the pandemic in 2019. Many of her creations are still enjoyed by folks within the New Jersey and Pennsylvania communities.
Her artistry was not limited to ceramics. Kelly also skillfully created handcrafted chocolate candies. Most of these were supplied to and sold by a gourmet candy store in South Jersey since around 2001.
Kelly was preceded in death by her two sisters, Cynthia Marie and Lisa Ann. She is survived by her parents, Carlo and Cynthia DiCesare; her husband of 30 years, Gary Reed; her Father and Mother in law, Jay and Sylvia Reed; her sister in law, Elaine Reed De Laszlo; two surviving uncles, several cousins and a nephew.
A viewing will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 31st at Burns' Funeral Home, 9708 Frankford, Avenue, Northeast Philadelphia. Funeral services will follow the viewing at 11:30 AM. Interment will be on the grounds of Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), from which Kelly and Gary have adopted their past and current feline companions who have provided them much love and joy.
