Died: October 9 th at St. Joseph Manor of Holy Redeemer Hospital
LD (as he liked to be called) was a graduate of the University of Utah and its School of Medicine. He was a brilliant researcher and Director of Research at the Henry & Corinne Bower Memorial Laboratories of Wills Eye Hospital for more than a decade. He was the Executive and Scientific Director of the Philadelphia Retinal Endowment Fund from January 1980 until January 2015. With more than 200 published scientific papers on vitreo-retinal disease, Dr. Donoso was renowned in his field.
LD was also a talented amateur photographer who generously gifted many of his works to friends and colleagues. Some of his favorite topics were the American West, life along the Delaware River and scenes from around the City of Philadelphia.
From his youth in Salt Lake City, Utah to his final days in Philadelphia, PA, LD made deep connections with people from all walks of life. His passing will be mourned by his niece, Mary Donoso-Winters, friends, colleagues and fellow researchers alike. Among them are Lew Petersen, Donell Creel PhD, Roger Barone, the Larry E. Magargal MD family, the Richard Goldberg MD family, Edward Gerner MD, Michael DellaVecchia MD PhD, Jerry Shields MD, and Carol Shields MD.
