Michael H. O'Brien died October 15, 2018 in the Fishtown rowhome where he lived 62 of his 64 years. He was the beloved husband of Rita (née Kohler) and devoted father of Bridget and Michael.
A dedicated statesman, Mike was elected to represent the 175
th
legislative district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2006 and took great joy in representing the same district as Benjamin Franklin. Mike was a neighborhood scrapper who previously worked in a meat house. He knew what it was like to lie awake worrying about how to pay the electrical bill and he knew what it was like to dine with governors and mayors. Mike fought passionately for working families, prioritizing affordable housing and education while championing progressive social causes.
