Detective Michael Fitzgerald, age 68, unexpectedly passed away on May 8, 2026. He was retired from the Philadelphia Police Department after 30 years of service.
Beloved husband of Barbara Fitzgerald. Stepfather of Michael Smerker and the late Stephen and Joseph Smerker. Dear grandfather of Alexa Perez-Smerker. Brother of Bill Fitzgerald (Donna). Uncle of Bill Fitzgerald (Cindy), Melissa, Hailey, and Olivia Fitzgerald.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Thursday morning, May 14, 2026, from 9:00-10:15 A.M. at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 9708 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19114. Funeral Service 10:30 A.M. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Philadelphia FOP Charitable Fund would be appreciated by the family.
