Norma Jean Guirate, 62 of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving daughter and family. Norma’s passing will leave behind a legacy of love and kindness. And memories that will live on in our hearts and make us laugh forever.
Norma was born on January 1, 1964, to the late Michael and Miriam Guirate. She was the proud and devoted mother of Amanda Torres and her husband Jason. Norma leaves behind Amanda’s father and her dearest friend, Jeff Majka. She was a caring and loving grandmother to Jaelynn, Skylar and Mila. Norma is survived by her brother Michael Guirate (Ellen), and sisters, Carol Glaubrecht (the late Bob) and Megan Ireland Tigro (Tony). Sister-in-law of Lois Manogue and Lisa Manogue. Norma’s nieces Chrissy, Becky, Rachel, Taylor, Emily, Mandy Lou, Bella, Avery and Alexis, and her nephews, Bobby Zig, Michael, Brian, Austin, Ryan, Izzy and Anthony. And last but not least, her favorite pup, Jack Tripper, who she always lovingly shared her coffee with.
Norma was one of the hardest-working women, her family and friends ever knew. Norma worked for Woods Services in Yardley, PA, and also Blue Grass Bingo; so that she could not only play bingo but also have extra cash for lottery tickets, scratchy’s, rides to the casino with Jeff and to-go coffee. Norma drank coffee from the moment she opened her eyes until the moment she went to bed. Norma was famous for her impersonations, prank phone calls, cutting multiple donuts or cookies in half, and her karaoke singing of 4 Non Blondes, What’s Up and Tina Turner. Norma also loved to take trips to Virginia to visit our Aunt Mary and Uncle Charlie McGinnis.
But most of all Norma will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, her selflessness, her capacity to forgive and always see the best in everyone, her beautiful smile and laugh, her ability to be there for everyone, any time they needed a ear, a shoulder or even a ride. Norma was everyone’s favorite person to joke and laugh with. She was the brightest light in all of our lives. And we will miss Norma every day for the rest of our lives.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Norma's life Wednesday, November 4, 2026, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Burns Funeral Home, 9708 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, followed by her Memorial Service 1:15 PM.
