Some people have room in their hearts for a couple friends their whole life. Paul had lifetime friends, people he has known and loved for decades but always made room for more. He would often meet someone new and instantly they would want to be around him and call Paul their friend.
His charismatic stage presence as a musician was one he put to good use in his work as a Philadelphia Police Officer. Paul's 30 years on the force, included community relations programs where him and a few fellow officers would educate school students about safety.
Paul was always willing to use his time and talents to help someone who needed a meal or help raise money for a charitable cause.
Paul was devoted to his parents, Sarah and "Danny Dingle" Martorello, his late brother Donnie and sister Roe by being there for them without question. He welcomed his two son in laws, Rob and Dennis into the family like sons.
As a father, he was the most gentle, loving, fun, musical, encouraging, compassionate and supportive dad, reminding his daughters, Bernadette and Jennifer to lead with love by his example and stick up for themselves when needed. Paul was always bragging about the accomplishments of his family no matter how great or small. He was constantly overwhelmed with pride for the lives his daughters and grandchildren, Tyler, Lexi, and Colton are leading and always made time to let them know how much he cared for them.
Paul could tell you a funny story from his life or joke that you've heard ten times over but you would never grow tired of hearing it, especially when he saw Bernadette, his wife for 50 years, for the first time. His daughters and grandchildren were not the only ones he was proud of. Paul adored Bernadette and would always praise not only her beauty but her brains. Even in the darkest times, their love for another held true and they took care of one another. We miss everything about you and cherish every minute we had with you wishing we had just one more. We pray you are reunited with the family and friends that have gone before you and your playing your music, singing your songs.
There aren't enough words to describe what a talented, loving person you were. You will remain in our hearts forever, until the day we can be together again.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia, 3068 Belgrade Street, Philadelphia, PA 19134 in his memory would be appreciated.
