Obituary

Richard E. Sr., age 84, of Northeast Philadelphia, passed away October 2, 2009, at home with the comfort and care of his family. A loving husband for 63 years of life's journey to Elizabeth T. (nee Morrissey); son of the late Issac and Caroline Baldwin, dear nephew of the late Caroline and Edward Apple, son-in-law of the late Anna M. Morrissey, devoted Dad and spirit of inspiration to his children: Patricia Ann, James, Richard Jr. and daughter-in-law Lorrie, Charles and daughter-in-law Kathy, Jeffrey Sr. and daughter-in-law Monica: also survived by his grandchildren Richard III (Athena), Kira and Jeffrey Baldwin, Jr., Molly and Lilly Scotti; great-grandchildren Richard IV and Alex Baldwin, dear cousin Irene Hughes her husband Norman and family, his nephews Charles Farnham (Theresa), Robert Farnham (Shirley), Daniel Farnham (Maggie) and families and Pop's best friend "Chance".

After graduating from Mastbaum Vocational Technology School, Mr. Baldwin entered the U.S. Navy in June 1943, and served with honor and decoration on the LST 535. Landing on June 6, 1944 on Normandy Beach, then continuing his service throughout the Pacific campaign and reaching Japan. On his return home from WWII, he married his sweetheart. Then he began his long and industrious career at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Within the next four years, he and his wife Elizabeth started their family of five children. An avid sailor and navigator, he spent several years with the US Power and Sail Squadron holding office of Education Departments, Membership, Editor-in-Chief, and Commander of the Squadron. Whether on the water, at the New Jersey beach, or in any family moment, Mr. Baldwin dedicated his life to his family, always providing in every way and leading by example. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Wednesday 9:30 A.M. St. Timothy Church (upper church), Hawthorne and Levick Sts. Phila, followed by his funeral mass 10:30 A.M. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
