Robert J. Check, known as "Bob" to family and friends, died at the age of 80 on October 26, 2022 in Rockville, Maryland. He passed peacefully with his son and daughter by his side.

Born in the Bridesburg neighborhood to Mary R. and Joseph H. Check, Bob was a proud Philadelphian. He graduated from Father Judge High School and attended LaSalle University, where he was a member of the rowing team.

Mr. Check had a long career, and fondly recalled his early experiences at the Insurance Company of North America and American Express. Always sure of himself, Bob once told a prospective manager that he was the "best insurance salesman since Ben Franklin." Later on, he transitioned to bond and municipal securities brokerage, working in Philadelphia, New York City, and Hartford. In the final chapter of his professional life, Mr. Check retired from the US Treasury after more than a decade of service.

A history and politics buff, Bob enjoyed storytelling and never passed up a good debate. Recreationally, he enjoyed golf and boating; and his dry wit was especially apparent in the name of his boat, the "Bouncing Check." In retirement, Bob enjoyed reading, spending time with his children and grandson, and keeping up with his neighbors; the latter earning him the moniker, "the Mayor of Crispin Manor."

Mr. Check is survived by his daughter, Meghan; son, John (Tina); grandson, Christopher; sister, Peggy Kraus (Bob); and three nieces. He was previously married to Peggy Brennan, and to the late Jo Ann Schultz.

Bob endured cancer twice in his later life, and his family wishes to thank the staff at UPenn's Abramson Cancer Center and Pennsylvania Hospital for their exceptional care.

A viewing will be held at 9AM followed by a funeral mass at 10AM on October 29 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Bensalem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to the Cancer Research Institute ( www.cancerresearch.org ) in Bob's memory.
