IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas D.
Schaffer
April 13, 1971 – April 3, 2023
Thomas "Tommy" Daniel Schaffer, age 51, of Philadelphia passed away on April 3, 2023. Tommy was born on April 13, 1971, in Philadelphia to Thomas and Lorraine Schaffer. Tommy's siblings poke fun that he is "mom's favorite."
In 1989, Tommy graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School, and in 1993, he graduated from Ocean County College with an associate's degree in criminal justice. He was a proud and fearless Philadelphia police officer for 27 years in the 15th District. He received countless accolades from the Philadelphia Police Department throughout the years, honoring his dedication to the force. When you met Tommy, you had a best friend for life, and someone you could truly count on. He was a brave, reliable, kindhearted soul to all, especially his children. He'd give you the shirt off his back, and he'll be remembered for his compassion. Tommy was always the funniest person in the room. His jokes would make you laugh until you couldn't breathe, and his laugh was unforgettable.
Tommy was skilled at many sports, especially ice hockey. He loved all Philadelphia sports teams and talking about them with his son. He always looked forward to taking his son to sports memorabilia stores in his spare time. He loved treating his kids to lunch, and running around outside with his grand-dog, Ziggy. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, and he loved making memories with everyone at his mother's home in North Wildwood. When his daughter was a cheerleader, he loved watching her cheer at football games, sharing Airheads with her during halftime. When she was young, he'd ride bikes on the boardwalk with her, winning prizes from every single claw machine. He later carried on that tradition with his nieces too. His Boston terrier named Joey was his best friend, and Joey had been waiting for him in heaven.
Tommy is survived by his mother Lorraine Schaffer, his children, Jayna (Daniel) Magras and Thomas Schaffer, his siblings, Lorraine Schaffer, Kimberly (Charles) Carter and Michael (Kate) Schaffer, his nieces and nephews, Erin Carter, Danielle Carter, Charles Carter, Steven Kozlowski, Delaney Kozlowski, Mackenzie Kozlowski, Peyton Schaffer, Michael Schaffer and Shane Schaffer. Relatives, friends and members of FOP are invited to his viewing Tuesday Eve 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and also Wednesday 9:15 AM to 10:15 AM at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 9708 Frankford Ave. Phila., PA 19114 followed by his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Christopher Church.
