IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas A.
Morell
August 7, 1964 – November 7, 2023
Thomas A. Morell passed away on Tuesday November 7, 2023, at the age of 59. Born and raised in a small town in Philadelphia (Bridesburg), Tom was the youngest son of the late Marie and Wilbert J. Morell Jr, Tom graduated from Frankford High School in 1984. He worked as an 'Illustrator Draftsman' for two years, creating and designing professional sketches, before he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force in 1986. He proudly served his country as a Security Specialist/Sergeant, arriving first at the Clark Air Base (a former Air Force Base located in the Republic of the Philippines), and later ending his Air Force career at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida. Prior to being honorably discharged, Tom was awarded with several medals for his accomplishments, to include: his strong sense of personal moral responsibility, leadership by example, patriotism, and valor and commitment to the United States Air Force. Upon returning home from the Air Force, he worked as an E-5 Security Specialist/Staff Sergeant for the United States Air National Guard from 1991-1994.
Tom graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy in 1992, and he dutifully served as a Philadelphia Police Foot Patrolman until 1997. He was also proud of his work in the private sector, working in the Security field for a variety of organizations, as he made his way up to a Supervisory Security agent. For those who took the time to get to know Tom, they quickly learned that Tom was a big kid at heart. Even though Tom was a quiet kid growing up, he was known to be a very big talker as he aged. Throughout his life, Tom always liked to spend time talking to his siblings and his nieces and nephews...and well, anyone else who would listen. Tom loved to play (and talk about) video games; Tom loved to watch (and talk…before, during, and after) movies, and he also loved to watch (and talk during) many baseball, football and hockey games. Tom would give a play-by-play explanation to anyone who was (or wasn't) trying to actually listen to the game. Tom played sports himself, to include hockey, as well as playing baseball for a men's baseball league. He enjoyed showing up to watch and cheer on his nieces and nephews while they played on their childhood sports teams (that is, if yelling, "what the hell was that!?" counts as cheering them on). Kidding aside, all of the kids really loved their Uncle Tom and had a very strong bond with him.
Tom really enjoyed watching all of the Philadelphia sports teams in his spare time, especially the Flyers, the Phillies and the Eagles. His prized possessions were his Pontiac Bonneville (which he faithfully washed and dried very often, and he drove that car until it just couldn't be driven anymore); his huge replica Stanley Cup trophy that he proudly displayed next to his TV; and his Vince Lombardi replica trophy (which was also displayed by his TV, but you were only allowed to hold it if you agreed to put on a special pair of gloves). He cheered his Philadelphia sports teams on faithfully as if he knew every player personally, hoping for another big win, year after year.
Tom is survived by his nine siblings and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews: Bill Morell (Deb), Joe Morell (Debbie), Dan Morell (Dawn), Bob Morell (Colleen), John Morell (Janet), Rose Sulock (Greg), Marie Milcarsky (Steve), Kate Morell and Chrissy Petrone (Joe).
Tom's close relatives and personal friends are invited to pay their respects to Tom, on Tuesday, November 21st at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, located at 830 Highland Rd, in Newtown, PA. Services are set to begin promptly at 10:00AM. Tom will ultimately be laid to rest alongside his fellow servicemen and women. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom's honor to the "Veterans Multi-Service Center of Philadelphia" at vmcenter.org
