Umberto Giampaolo passed away April 9, 2024 at the age of 80. Loving husband of Maria (nee Marinucci). Devoted father of Enrico "Rick" (Terri), Giuseppe "Joe" (Lori) and Melissa  McCarey (Michael). Dear Pop-Pop and Nonno to Jesse, Jennifer, Julia and Daniel.

Umberto was born in Ripa,Teatina, Italy in July 1943 where he completed 7th grade.  He later worked with his parents farming their small parcels of hilly land, which have been in his family for several generations. Umberto came to the United States as a 19-year-old in 1963 in search of opportunity and a better life. He lived in South Philadelphia with his aunt, uncle and cousins (the Ambrosini family). He tried several occupations - he first worked for a butcher shop on 9th Street and later as a tailor and a concrete mason. Umberto returned to Italy where he fell in love with
Maria Marinucci, the girl who lived across the street from his parents' house. Umberto and Maria were married in May 1968 and they returned to Philadelphia. They lived with Maria's aunt, uncle and cousin (the Nicolo family) for a short time until they bought their first house in 1969 on Darien Street in North Philadelphia. Umberto's longest career occupation began in 1971 when he began working as a UAW press operator with the Budd Company in Hunting Park until his retirement in 2003. Umberto enjoyed connecting with friends from the old country on Facebook and tending to his garden. Umberto was a true family man. He loved his family more than anything and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren,
especially for Sunday afternoon dinners. He will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Saturday, April 13, 2024, 9:30-1045AM followed by Mass 11:00AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, 18966.  Entombment, Forest Hills Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111 in memory of Umberto Giampaolo.
