IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia F.
D'Ambrosio (Nee Croce)
September 22, 1928 – August 14, 2017
Beloved wife of the late Louis T. "Juny" Devoted mother of Kathleen S. Pedrick (the late Joseph), and Linda D'Ambrosio. Dear sister of the late Alma Fario, Eugene Pirolli, and Carmen Croce; survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Virginia was an operatic lyric soprano who was vocally gifted from childhood and enjoyed sharing her talent at every opportunity. Her passion was singing and she spent her life-time entertaining and performing in various venues throughout the Delaware Valley. She sang the leading roles in La Traviata, La Boheme, Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Sister Angelica, and many other productions. In addition to her operatic roles, she also enjoyed singing light classics and Broadway show tunes, in establishments ranging from the Pocono Mountain resorts to the New Jersey ocean side music piers, elegant hotels, banquet halls, restaurants and outdoor concerts in the Philadelphia Parks System. She was also a member of the Little Lyric Opera Company (which is now called the Opera Company of Philadelphia) wherein she performed minor roles and in many ensembles alongside the operatic greats of the day, Maria Callas, Anna Moffo and Licia Albanese. She graduated from Temple University, earning a Bachelor of Music Degree in Opera Performance, then attended Westminster Choir College for additional music studies. Shortly thereafter, she earned certification as a Minister of Liturgical Music from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Religious Studies Division. She started her own opera company, The Northeast Opera Company, with the intent of entertaining and educating children in the arts and fine music and presented many productions such as Hansel and Gretel, Red Riding Hood and Amahl and the Night Visitors for the entertainment of the youngest audiences. She also enjoyed teaching private voice and piano lessons and also offered her services of musical therapy in nursing homes and veterans establishments. Her greatest passion was singing the vast repertoire of sacred music in the churches where she could honor and glorify God. She always had a song in her heart and on her lips.
