Obituary

William I. Cook, of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2021.  He was 89 years of age.  Beloved husband of the late Joan R. Cook (nee Lewis) for 63 years.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William and Euphemia Cook.  Bill was a lifelong hunter, coin collector, and gardner.  He loved to plan vacations and getaways with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed going to the track and trips to the casino.  He also enjoyed telling a good story about his proud family history and legacy.  After an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force, Bill started his career with Cummins Diesel Engines until retirement.  He was a committeeman for over 30 years.  For more than 15 years, Bill was a manager and coach for his sons baseball team with Lansing AA, while also being a commissioner for the Devlin League.

Bill is survived by his loving children William L. Cook (Eileen), Sharon Guerra (Steve) and Nancy Lazarow (Keith).  In addition to his wife Joan, Bill was preceded in death by his heavenly daughters Janet Hackett and Phyllis Daino (Steve); and sister Nancy Cook McGill (the late Jim).  Bill was blessed with 14 grandchildren, Jackie (Dave), Steven (Jenny), Clint (Alycia), Michele (Jason), Christopher (Laura), Marikate (Jonathan), Christine (Tommy), Stephen, Maria, Ryan, Erica, Megan, Michael, and Billy; 13 great grandchildren David, Steven, Savannah, Bella, Emily, Cole, Livvy, Gabe, Harry, Claire, Willow, Louis, and Pippa.  Also survived by his caring sister-in-law Arlene Collins (the late Richard) and brother-in-law Robert Lewis (Kathy); and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing Thursday, September 23, 2021, from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon , at BURNS FUNERAL HOME, 9708 Frankford Ave., Phila., PA 19114, followed by his burial at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 1:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to American Legion Post 0754, 2019 Rhawn St., Phila., PA 19152.
