William J. Shaw, Sr., passed away on April 14, 2023 less than a month shy of his 90th birthday. Or as he would have put it: almost at 90th Street.
Bill was known and loved for his robust sense of humor, which was often irreverent and his memory never fails to elicit smiles along with stories of silliness and hilarity. Bill proudly served his country in Korea and will be properly interred with military honors at
Washington Crossing.
Bill was predeceased by his siblings, (as he was the youngest of six) Art, Gene, Paul, Clare and Kathryn, as well as their spouses. He is survived by three children: Ellen (Michael), Joe (Maria) and Bill (Trish). He relished his role as Poppy to Patrick, John, Joe(Shannon), Rachael, Amanda,
and Colleen. He was recently gifted a great grandson, Joey. Many nieces and nephews have fond and funny stories to tell of him. Bill loved straight ahead jazz, golf and the restaurants of South Philadelphia. He was a fierce and legendary advocate for automobile maintenance.
A celebration of life, which will no doubt feature many hilarious stories will be held on Friday, April 28 at St. Katherine of Siena Church from 9:30AM to 10:45AM followed by his funeral mass at 11:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to one of Bills favorite charities may be sent to:
