IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William R.
Weist
January 14, 1945 – May 23, 2021
Bill Weist passed away suddenly May 23, 2021 at the age of 76. Beloved husband to Valerie Weist; loving father of Denise, Diane Struthers, Valerie, and son-in-law Steve Struthers; grandpop of Kate and Owen. A lifelong resident of Philadelphia, Bill worked in IT at the School District of Philadelphia for 25 years. He had an intellectual curiosity and used this gift throughout his life to learn new skills and embark on new hobbies, including fishing, photography, and home improvement. This curiosity led to his two favorite past times, sailing and woodturning.
He joined Liberty Sailing Club over 30 years ago and was instantly hooked. "Sailor Bill" became an avid sailboat racer, teacher, and mentor to generations of sailors whom he introduced to the joy of sailing on the Delaware River by the Ben Franklin Bridge. He was also a member of the Bucks Woodturners Club and enjoyed turning blocks of wood into beautiful bowls, ornaments, kitchen utensils, and whimsical castles.
Bill's greatest joy in life was his family. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, making time to listen and always ready to lend a helping hand. Married for 58 years, Bill and Valerie enjoyed raising three daughters, their trips to Aruba, and working on their very own "This Old House."
